Effects of Psilocybin in Major Depressive Disorder

Summary: Study will assess whether people with major depressive disorder experience psychological and behavioral benefits and/or harms from psilocybin. This study will investigate acute and persisting effects of psilocybin on depressive symptoms and other moods, attitudes, and behaviors. The primary hypothesis is that psilocybin will lead to rapid and sustained antidepressant response, as measured with standard depression rating scales.
Phase 3 Trials: FDA Grants Breakthrough Therapy Designation for MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy for PTSD 
The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Research has designated researching MDMA as a tool to assist psychotherapy for the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) their highest priority.
"Preliminary studies have shown that MDMA in conjunction with psychotherapy can help people overcome PTSD, and possibly other disorders as well. MDMA is known for increasing feelings of trust and compassion towards others, which could make an ideal adjunct to psychotherapy for PTSD..."
MAPS has completed the first double-blind, placebo-controlled study of the therapeutic use of LSD in human beings since the early 1970s .
12 subjects experiences positive trends in the reduction of anxiety following two LSD-assisted psychotherapy sessions. The study also indicates that LSD is safe to use in studies and thus justifies further research.
